Global transport costs for international trade

The Trade-and-Transport Dataset has been developed by UNCTAD and the World Bank to leverage details and breakdowns available in countries’ data submissions to UN Comtrade for the measurement of international freight transport alongside the international merchandise trade it enables. Transport costs are revealed by the difference between the CIF and the FOB value recorded in international trade data. The mode of transport has been derived from information collected by customs about the mode by which goods arrive at the national border in combination with global transport network models to identify the main routes used for the shipping and thereby adjust for intermodal transshipment.

Choose an economy of destination, a commodity group and a reference year to display the corresponding main trade and transport flows, their significance in terms of the goods' value (free on board), the ad-valorem freight rate charged for the transport on average, and the breakdown of the overall transport work by mode.
